Sue Atkinson

Sue Atkinson was born in 1949 in Bradford and is the daughter of a Bradford wool merchant. She studied at Wakefield College of Art. Her depictions of her "little people groups" and of fisher-folk busying themselves on the beaches at Whitby or Runswick Bay, are so magical that the numbers of collectors after her work are increasing to such an extent that Sue is having difficulty keeping up with demand. As she herself said," Painting gives me the opportunity to express my enthusiasm for nature through landscapes, and observing people (with some curiosity and humour) in my conversation pieces and figure painting."

Her approach to the subjects is unique and the results are humorous, cleverly observed and always very sympathetic.

Sue has exhibited at The Royal Academy, The New English Art Club, The Royal Society of Painters in Watercolour, The Royal Society of Marine Artists and The Singer Friedlander/ Sunday Times Watercolour Competition. She has won awards in the Discerning Eye exhibition 2002, The Laing Landscape Exhibition 1998, The Saunders Waterford Award at the Royal Watercolour Society 1994 etc.
